I was responsible for visual design, interaction design, and user research for the 2013 launch of their Discover feature as well as the new app redesign. The Discover feature builds a playlist based on your interests and how much time you have.
I was also responsible for visual design of promotional material to market the app, including a website and stop-motion animation.
The app received the 2013 "World's Best Designed" from The Society For News Design and was nominated for 2015 "Best Streaming Audio" Webby Award.
WNYC's Audio Player
I was responsible for visual and interaction design for the audio player on WNYC's website. The player can stream both on-demand content and live broadcasts. It is responsive across devices and it allows for streaming, fast-forwarding, rewinding, sharing, and controlling volume. Listeners can also add to, and access, their audio queue and listening history.
WNYC is New York City's public radio station.
I was the lead visual and UX designer on the launch of WNYC's user accounts across all devices on the web. The project included the ability to sign up for an account, log in, view and edit an account, and retrieve a forgotten password.

I designed and built the promotional page for the podcast Note to Self's book launch of Bored and Brilliant: How Spacing Out Can Unlock Your Most Productive and Creative Side. The book is a follow-up to their Bored and Brilliant project, for which I also contributed wireframes.

WQXR is New York's classical music station and the most listened-to classical music station in the United States.
I was responsible for visual design, interaction design, and user research for the launch of the WQXR mobile app. The app included an alarm clock, sleep timer, videos, radio streams, and downloadable audio.
Radiolab's 15th Anniversary
I designed the landing page for Radiolab's 15th Anniversary celebration, which included a special anniversary episode, a playlist of staff favorites, and vintage Radiolab photos. I was responsible for the visual design and UX design. Created with a freelancer's illustration.
WNYC is New York's public radio station. One of their shows, Death, Sex & Money, wanted to create an ongoing multi-media project for their coverage of student loan debt. The project included an interactive quiz which provides data and specific content based on user-input. It also included an interactive world map of stories with the ability for users to add stories.
I was responsible for ideation, strategy, visual design and UX. Animations and illustrations were created by a freelance illustrator.
WNYC is New York's public radio station. One of their shows, Note to Self, wanted to create a 5-day participatory project to accompany their podcast episodes about the privacy paradox. Working with an illustrator, I was responsible for the visual design and UX.
I started my design career 15 years ago in a small graphic design studio in Lawrence, Kansas. We created logos for local businesses, including NASA Kansas. Since then my work has expanded to include mobile app logo design.

The Other Box Project
I was the lead visual/UX designer, and the front-end developer, for the landing page of The Other Box Project, a series of public conversations to mark the 50th anniversary of the Supreme Court’s Loving v. Virginia decision. The project is moderated by WNYC host Jami Floyd.
I was a lead interaction designer for the early iAd team at Apple. My team was responsible for the launch of dozens of high-profile interactive and animated ads, built on an HTML5 framework. Depending on the project, my role ranged from prototyping animations and interactions in HTML5, maintaining and growing a library of interaction design patterns, contributing content to the Apple iAd style guide, and offering interaction design consultation to clients and advertising agencies.
